The '108' Mala has 108 main beads, used for counting recitations during meditation. They are typically made from wood, gemstones, bodhi seeds, rudraksha, etc
On the '108' Mala, the marker beads separate each group of 27 main beads, as a way to keep track of where you are. On the bracelets, it's for decoration.
The Guru bead marks the end of 108 recitations.
The tassel pendant is decorative. Mala with Metta likes to use the Tree of Life for the pendant and beads that match the marker beads. But other pendants and bead colours can be selected for custom designs.
The cord holds it all together!
Counters are used when you want to perform multiples of 108 recitations.
While each mala is being created, loving-kindness is intended for the person receiving it. Once completed, it is held by the maker during Metta meditation intended for the recipient. If you give it to someone, you are adding your loving kindness. So it is ‘energised’ with loving-kindness.
