With the intention of Universal Loving-Kindness

Mala - a garland or loop of Buddhist prayer beads that 

are worn around the neck or wrist. 

Metta - the Pali word for Loving-Kindness. 

If a Mala with Metta is made for you, or gifted to you, it is done to express loving-kindness to you. If you gift it to yourself, then you are expressing loving-kindness towards yourself. 

You can choose to use your mala for meditation, to wear it for decorative purposes, as a keepsake, or give it away. If you choose to give it away, consider giving it to someone to whom you would like to send loving-kindness.
